Welcome
Welcome to the Baha’i Center of the Western States. Here you will find information specifically from, for and to Baha’is living in the western region of the United States.
The west has a long connection to the beginnings of the Baha’i Faith in America and continues to exert a strong influence over the rest of the Baha’i World. Its administrative center is located here along with the home of Abdu’l-Baha’s great-grandson, the current Guardian and executive branch of Baha’u'llah’s Universal House of Justice. Early influential believers Thornton Chase and Pheobe Hearst hailed from California, and John Wilcott – the Cowboy Baha’i, who delivered the message on horseback at the turn of the century – was active in Montana.
When Abdu’l-Baha traveled here from Palestine in 1912, he remarked that Western Colorado and its canyons and caves reminded him of the caves in which Muhammad received his revelation and to where Muhammad fled from those who sought to exterminate him and his companions. Abdu’l-Baha spent three days in Glenwood Springs, Colorado where he was able to take a brief rest when the train was temporarily held up and could not continue.
The establisher of the Baha’i Faith, Dr. Leland Jensen, spent his defining years in Missoula, Montana. Here, he reestablished what the covenant-breakers threw out, when he incorporated the second International Baha’i Council with the Guardian at its head as the highest administrative body in the Baha’i Faith.
Most recently, we now know that the western United States, specifically the Rocky Mountain region, is the prophesied location of the New Jerusalem of the Book of Revelation.
